Selecting A Zip Code
I had a request yesterday from a customer who wanted to select records with only one certain zip code from their property database. This can be easily done with the Advanced Filter option in the Mailing Label Screen. The trick is to use the $ function that searches an entire field for a match on just a few characters. If I just wanted to pull property records that shared my zip code for example, the filter condition I would enter would be: "41011" $ property.address2. You can substitute any zip code into this filter. This is a good example of a filter you may want to add a description to so that you can save it and reuse it again easily in the future.

Log Me In
Last Friday I visited a customer who has found an innovative way to use ZonePro outside of the office. The City of Huber Heights has 3 inspectors who use ZonePro in the field to log violations. They use the service provided by LogMeIn.Com to connect remotely from their laptops to a PC in the office running ZonePro. Each of the laptops has a Verizon broadband wireless card to make the connection. I tried it myself and the response times are great. The secret behind their success is that they have a dedicated PC for each inspector back at the office that has ZonePro loaded. The laptops do not have any ZonePro software on them. They connect via the internet and LogMeIn to the PCs at the office and run ZonePro remotely. The beauty of this option is that there is no fear of a dropped connection corrupting databases, etc. because each ZonePro session is actually running locally in the office. The city also cites added security as a bonus because there is no actual city data on the laptops.
